Time and Tuition
When a student can read, he moves from being a dependent learner to an independent learner. Grades generally go up across the board. My goal is to be the last private tutor you’ll need (at least until it’s time for higher math).
Over the years, I found that there is a time formula to learning to read. It is very important that I work with your child twice per week, especially in the beginning. As a mother, I know how hard it is to schedule time in kid’s busy schedules, but a few months out of your child’s life now will save years of heartache in the future. At 35 or 40, he probably won’t be playing soccer and she probably won’t still be dancing, but I can guarantee they will still need to know how to read.
Typical schedule:
- 1 hour, twice per week.
- Monday-Wednesday or Tuesday-Thursday.
- 4-5, 5-6, or 6-7 pm.
- If this is a problem, call me and we will see if we can come up with a solution together. I do not want scheduling problems to keep your child from learning to read.
For homeschoolers, I have day times available to work with individuals in my home or with groups at your location. Check with me for group tuitions or home school parent group trainings.
Typical length of time in tutoring: This is a harder one, since I allow each child to work at his or her own pace, but about 5 months is typical for children who are behind, but don’t have serious learning disabilities. Others can take a little longer to get optimal results.
If I suspect that your child has a learning problem that cannot be fixed with my step-by-step phonics and comprehension program, I will let you know as quickly as possible and refer you to the appropriate types of medical or educational professionals. However, don’t assume that because there is a learning disability that it means your child can’t improve with an organized reading program.
- Tuition: $250 per month (for sessions twice per week), due at the beginning of each month (or split into 2 checks on the 1st and 15th).
- Book fee: $30 for first 4 books. $20-30 more when the rest are needed in 2-4 months.
- Enrollment fee: $0
- Consultation fee: $0
- Testing fee: $0
